What to Prepare and Bring to Overtures

What to Prepare for Day One:

  • Your assigned solo. Make sure you have it memorized and that you've practiced with the accompanist. (Be prepared to present the whole song.)
  • Learn your assigned small group number - coming soon. Do your best to come in with it memorized!
  • Two memorized and contrasting contemporary monologues. You'll present one of them Monday. Present the one you feel is your strongest piece.
  • A 32-bar Golden Age cut. (Details were emailed out to you regarding specifics.)
  • A 32-bar Pop cut. (Details were emailed out to you regarding specifics.)
  • Arrive in audition attire. You're welcome to bring in a change of clothes for later sessions in the day.

What to bring each day:
  • Sheet music for your assigned solo, group numbers, assigned duet / trio, your pop song and your Golden Age song.
  • Printed text of your monologues
  • Your audition songbook
  • A positive attitude, a willingness to try / fail / learn and succeed.
  • Dance clothing and jazz shoes, if you have them. Arrive in dance clothes on Day One!
  • Tap shoes (if you own them), if you don't currently own a pair whatever dance shoes you currently have is also fine.
  • Clothing appropriate for a singing and acting audition (Which you should wear following lunch on Monday morning. )
  • Black pants and shoes you can dance in (we don't anticipate you needing the pants in class until we go into showcase tech for the Showcase on June 20. If you need them before then, we will let you know!)
  • Your phone, keep it handy to record music, accompaniment.
  • One copy of your resume and photo. (Note that you'll turn in your resume and photo for feedback in the program. You'll receive notes and then be expected to make alterations to your resume and reprint your resume by June 19. We can help reprint but we won't have anything fancier than standard printer paper.)
  • Pencil and/or pen and notebook to take notes. Don't plan on taking your notes on your laptop.
  • A water bottle.
  • Lunch and dinner (While there are several restaurants in the neighborhood, you will not have time for them. We do have a fridge and microwave though and a grocery store next door.)
As always, if you have questions, reach out at overtures@sigtheatre.org . More info coming!
